Reminiscing of Morning Show Holiday’s Past

Remember the good old days when you woke up early for school to watch the Ramblin Rod Show? Every morning they played Popeye, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, and those beautiful cartoons from the 1930′s and 1940′s. In between the cartoons, Ramblin’ Rod would ask the studio audience filled with kids questions about their favorites. One of the highlights of the show was the smile contest; the camera would pan across each row of children giving off their best smile to win a prize. It was a very special thing to actually make it into the audience at The Ramblin Rod Show, and there was always a happy, filled audience.

Ramblin Rod always ‘rode’ into the studio in this boat, wearing his famous button sweater filled with hundreds of buttons the children had given him over the eyars. His morning show was on for decades, and I will always have fond childhood memories of Ramblin Rod, and feel as though perhaps today’s kids are missing out on a little tradition that made my childhood a little bit richer. Then again, maybe today’s children are too sophisticated for old cartoons and smile contests, or so they would like to think, right?

Some Good Morning America Observations

Every morning people are all over their www.cannonsatellite.com internet making comments on Good Morning America’s website or calling into the show itself but we prefer to justabsorb. It’s a weird FOUR hours and we’ve noticed a few things that we’d like to bring up
What’s Up With Sam? – The question we get most often is about Sam Champion’s sexual orientation and to be quite honest, we don’t know. He’s not married and never has been and he’s just intensely private with his personal life.
George is VERY Short – There have been rumors that George Stephanopoulis is literally too short to be an effective anchor but we don’t agree at all. He is playing second fiddle to Josh, though, so we don’t really know what’s going to become of the little guy’s anchor chair.
Less Crowds? – We don’t know about you guys but it seems to us the crowds have been much slimmer at all the New York morning shows lately. We don’t know if it’s the weather or what but it’s weird watching when there’s an empty parking lot behind the anchors.

Bloopers and Goofs: Which Host Flubbed their Lines Today?

Today, July 9, 2011, host Mike Galanos on HLN cable channel flubbed his lines when speaking to one of the reporters that bring stories to Mike to inform his viewers and to get his reaction. Reporter Casey Jordan was as perky as all get out and acted disturbed about her story. She was reporting on the Casey Anthony acquittal. She said, (pretending that the story was a flashback) the prosecutor is going to ask to get a conviction on first degree murder. Mike jumped in and said but she was already acquitted. The camera jumped back to Casey Jordan who said well they shouldn’t have asked to get a first degree murder, they should have asked to get an involuntary manslaughter. Mike looked at the cameras with a slight grin and said what is she going to do now? Reporter Casey Jordan said look for the real killer or some such answer which really made no sense. The entire scene was supposed to be played as if it had taken place 10 days earlier but Mike had flubbed his lines and played the scene like it was happening now. Mike was able to come through without sounding totally ridiculous but reporter Casey Jordan looked as if he had violated her face with the grimacing and chin gesturing.

The View is a popular morning talk show on ABC. The all woman panel discusses current events and topics and interviews a wide variety of people. One of their most talked about topics lately has been the trial of Casey Anthony. Casey Anthony was accused of committing a heinous crime against her young daughter. Since 2008 people all over the world have followed the trial with most people believing she was guilty. When the verdict came back a few days ago that she was not guilty people everywhere were outraged. The View had the prosecutors on to get their reaction to the not guilty verdict. Although the prosecutors didn’t want to fuel the public by giving a negative reaction they were surprised and let down by the not guilty verdict. Like so many others they couldn’t believe the outcome. Although they were mad they know that the justice system unfortunately doesn’t always get it right. The jurors decided not guilty due to the lack of sufficient evidence against Casey Anthony. Although many people believed she should have been found guilty by law she cannot be put on trial for it again. Many people especially the prosecutors were mad about the decision yet there is nothing we can do about now.

Morning Television Fashion: How Do your Favorite Hosts Rate?

I try to wake up early enough to catch the start of the early morning news shows. It gives me some alone time before the kids get up demanding breakfast or lunch money. I’m sitting there in my bathrobe bleary eyed and barely focused waiting for that fist jolt of caffeine to kick in and I can’t help wondering how these morning television hosts manage to look alert, awake and perfectly coiffed.

TV personalities require a certain amount of wardrobe and makeup time before they go on-air so these early morning hosts are getting up in the wee hours of the morning. In a recent interview Matt Lauer of the Today Show reported that he sets his alarm and his Blackberry for 4:10am. Al Roker gets up even earlier at 3:15am. Incredibly Meredith Vieira is up long before that and is already checking messages by the time Al’s alarm goes off.

Despite or maybe because of their early wake-up calls most morning show hosts are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed by their 7am airtime. Robin Roberts of Good Morning America for instance is consistently glamorous. I personally favor the wardrobe of Ann Curry and Natalie Morales of the Today Show, which is casual and chic
